Photographing weddings at the beautiful and expansive Cox Arboretum MetroPark in West Carrolton, Ohio is actually quite difficult. Most weddings take place in the afternoon between 1pm and 4pm. This also happens to be the time of day when the sun is the brightest. Full-sun photography, although seemingly beautiful, is actually going to create the worse looking images.
Middle of the day sunshine causes the wedding party and all guests to squint throughout the wedding and formal photos and also causes raccoon eyes for each person. I am very good about exposing my images to show the beautiful skies as well as the beautiful wedding. However, even when everyone is facing me and facing away from the sun, squinting and raccoon eyes still occur.
When wedding photos at Cox Arboretum MetroPark is easy is when the skies are cloudy and overcast. Clouds create a beautiful soft light that flatters every bride, groom, wedding party and guest. My ideal Cox Arboretum wedding photos are taken in cloudy conditions with the bridal party, park features and skies all properly exposed.
Cox Arboretum wedding photos are beautiful but can be challenging on very sunny days.
